Adelphia Success Story
PremCom Corporation, located in Buffalo, New York, is a premier Multi-Service Integrator that provides design, installation and support of communication and data networks. Adelphia, headquartered in Coudersport, a rural community in North Central Pennsylvania, is one of the nation’s leading cable companies. In addition to cable entertainment, Adelphia provides local voice and long distance telephone services, messaging, enhanced data and high-speed Internet services. Over the last 5 years PremCom and Adelphia have become partners in the communication world.
In November 1996, Adelphia realized that in order to stay current with the rest of the industry, they needed to replace present computer systems with more advanced technology, allowing Internet access and e-mail capabilities. Adelphia needed one vendor to install and service their various locations across the country. They wanted to have one contact for the entire project, which included all Adelphia customer service centers east of the Mississippi, 60 plus locations.
That’s where PremCom Corporation came into the picture. Adelphia had requirements that needed to be met and PremCom seemed to be able to live up to them all. PremCom was selected to handle this large project because of a few major factors: PremCom is a Western New York company and the initial project included the Data Center in West Seneca, NY. Adelphia prefers to keep business local. An executive at Adelphia knew and respected PremCom’s work. PremCom was able to conform to Adelphia’s method of doing business, and PremCom’s pricing was extremely competitive. Over all of these factors, PremCom was the most sensible choice.
The task of wiring over 200 buildings began in March of 1997. This project was on a strict 6-month schedule. “Adelphia had rigid timelines. We were working in live Data Centers and around actively working people,” stated John DiGuiseppe, President of PremCom. “It was a difficult project, but because we had initially conducted site surveys of the larger centers, we were able to ensure the project went smoothly and that service was not interrupted.” PremCom made helpful suggestions, but they worked mainly off of Adelphia’s plan. A large part of that plan included the necessity for the network design to be flexible. “At the Data Centers office space is premium and at Adelphia we need to be able to move very quickly,” told Jeff Wing, Network Operations for Adelphia. “What’s a broom closet one day could very well be someone’s office the next.” Therefore, PremCom put the wiring closets in the ceiling to make for easier adaptation in the future. This of course was more costly originally for Adelphia, but in the long run, will enabled them to conduct business the way they need to.
By August, the project was complete and PremCom had met and exceeded all necessary expectations and timelines. PremCom passed this big test for one of the nation’s largest telecommunications and cable companies. Because of their success, PremCom continues to gain business from Adelphia.
Presently, PremCom satisfies the many needs of Adelphia through contracting help, in addition to expert technical support. Adelphia also utilizes PremCom’s DataLine division for expendables as well. PremCom is able to provide same day or next day service for any product necessary because of the geographical proximity the companies have to each other.
