When its current phone vendor did not anticipate this growth they provided a traditional phone system that would not scale for this growth. Nano DynamicsJim Toomey was never really interested in telephone systems. He was a computer man at Nano Dynamics in Buffalo, and telephones were something he only used when emails wouldn’t do. Then, he attended a PremCom seminar on ShoreTel Intelligent Phones, and suddenly, the computer guy became a phone guy.

“ShoreTel was my idea, from start to finish,” said Jim, head of information technology for the swiftly growing manufacturer of sub-atomic sized products. He has reason to feel proud. When his company installed their new ShoreTel system, users simply liked it better.

“A major concern for us was growth and remote growth,” he said, explaining that the Nano Dynamics had just acquired a materials company in Columbus, Ohio, and has it eyes on more growth. The new phone system would need to be efficient at connecting remote locations. ShoreTel was, allowing the company to easily add phones for the Ohio plant.

“I looked into other telephony systems. ShoreTel’s features were much easier for the end-user. The software portion of user-interface was a lot nicer than the other systems, and I thought people would work with it better. And they have,” he said recently from his office at the Fuhrmann Boulevard plant.

“Besides that, managing users is worlds easier than the old console administered system.”

Even though Jim had never overseen a phone installation before, the new phones for 50 users were installed pretty easily. “I’ve only placed about three or four service calls from the day it’s been installed. That’s pretty amazing for any kind of install on that scale.”

“Pretty much every person here has appreciated the system,” he added. “And I like that I can administer the software from anywhere that I can access the internet.”

Speaking of access, the new phone system makes all Nano Dynamics employees more accessible.

“I like the way I can be reached any way I need to be, whether it’s email or voicemail or call forwarding. It makes me available to the point that I couldn’t be unavailable,” he paused and smiled. “Unless I wanted to be.”
