ISP Cutover Information
On the weekend of May 17-18, Premcom Corporation will be making a change to its primary public IP range. This will primarily affect those customers utilizing our email and web hosting services. We will be taking proactive steps to ensure the transition is as seamless as possible, however please expect there to be outages during that weekend to web and email services throughout the 24-48 hour period. We expect all services to be fully functional by 8:00 am on Monday May 19, 2008.
For email customers, we will make changes which should allow most email to continue to flow during the changes but there may be times during which there is a delay in sending or receiving emails. For web customers there will be a convergence delay while the rest of the world learns of the new addressing schemes. For any customers using SSL certificates, we will re-order these services with the proper addresses prior to the cut and will implement them during the cut.
The largest impact will be on customers who have utilized our DNS servers for use within their network. I would highly recommend that customers spend time reviewing their network settings to ensure that they are using the DNS servers of their Internet Service Provider and NOT the Premcom DNS servers. Below are documents which will show you how to check what the settings for DNS are on both a PC and a server. Only customers utilizing Premcom for ISP services will need to set our new DNS servers up on their systems. We will contact those customers directly to review the proper settings.
Additionally, customers to whom we have provided remote support services via controlled access (access control lists, vpn access, and network address translation) will need to be adjusted. Any customers who have a valid network or remote support agreement will have those changes made for them, or have information provided to them for these changes at no charge. For customers who have this ability set up as a convenience there are two options. We can add the new address range into the permissions lists ahead of time for a time and materials charge prior to the cut. This will ensure that we can access your networks to provide the fastest support possible in the event you require rapid support. If you do not choose to have this service provided prior to the cut, then the next time you require support there is a high degree of possibility that we will need to come onsite to allow those permissions changes. This would be charged at the time of service and may cause a delay in our ability to resolve the issues you have contacted us for. I would highly urge you to schedule a time for us to make these changes prior to the service cut date. This will not affect those customers whom we assist via GoToAssist sessions, but those with access lists and translations via routers and firewalls.
This is a large step for Premcom Corporation during which we will be increasing our bandwidth to the public by 30%. This will increase our ability to provide the service you have come to expect from us. As the industry grows and changes, we must change with it to continue to provide support in an ever more challenging world.
Please feel free to contact our help desk if you have any questions or concerns regarding this migration at 716-691-0791 extension 149, or contact your sales representative to schedule time for proactive services to make access changes ahead of time. This is also an outstanding time to review the service contracts you currently have and consider upgrading to network or remote support agreements with us.
We will be following up this notice with phone calls to many of our customers to ensure you fully understand the impact this may have upon your business and to work with you to ensure it is as minimized as possible.
